New Employee Orientation is a three-day program for new non-uniform employees designed to acquaint participants with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections' mission, rules for employees, safety procedures, and information about the inmate population so they may have a clear understanding of their roles as DOC employees. It is run by the Training Academy and is held at the Training Academy, 2nd Floor, Pinel Building, 16 Wilma Schesler Lane, Cranston. Two days are spent in a classroom setting, while the third day is spent touring the facilities. If you are a new employee, you are required to attend all three days of training. If you a volunteer or a contract employee, you may not have to attend all three days of training; your immediate supervisor will let you know.
